Workshop Hiring Smart, The Art and Science of Employee Selection

It’s all here in this all-day (2-part), interactive workshop! All Omnia workshops operate on two principles:

· relevant information is inspiration (our way of saying “an ounce of relevant information is worth a pound of inspiration”)

· learning is easier and retention is better when the learner participates in the learning process and practices new skills.

Here is the workshop outline:

Benchmarking. Learn to draw a picture of what a job demands to be successful and compare that picture to another picture of the realities of your workplace, the environment in which the job will be performed. Learn how to align the two pictures for maximum employee retention.

The Position/Job Description. How important are they? What purposes do they serve? If we don’t have one and we need one, where do we get one?

Sources of Recruits. How do we use the Internet, the most powerful recruiting tool ever imagined, to serve us? What other sources are effectively used today and how do we make best use of them?

Pre-Screening. To shorten the list of candidates, what pre-screen actions can be performed?

How to Read a Résumé Considered one of today’s greatest sources of original fiction, résumés can hold important clues to the seriousness, personality, honesty and maturity of a candidate. It’s easy and it’s fun!

Testing. What is the role of profiling? How reliable is it? Why is it reliable? What pre-selection tests are illegal? What about skills tests? Besides Omnia, who are the other big players in this field?

Interviewing. What are the right questions to ask? What questions are wrong, illegal or irrelevant? What is the best interviewing process?

Reference Checking. Since no one returns our calls, how do we verify we aren’t hiring Trouble? Is this worth the nuisance? If we do get someone on the phone, what should we ask?

MAY WE SUGGEST BENCHMARKING AS A SEPARATE, STAND ALONE WORKSHOP?

It works as described above, except that the benchmarking is done by the group of employees actually performing in the job and in the workplace. Benchmarking results can present interesting, valuable surprises when compared to benchmarks done by one individual manager or HR professional!
